Creating Relationships Each Wednesday is our afterschool program for 4th through 8th graders. We meet every Wednesday from September to November, and then again from January to May. During our time together (3:30–4:30 p.m.), we have devotions, activities and games that help youth strengthen their relationship with God and with each other.
St. Mark Youth Living Everyday is our high school youth group. We meet from 6:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. every Wednesday September through November and January through May (except for Lent). During our time together, we play games, study the Bible, and serve the community.
In July 15-19, 2015, eight youth and four adult sponsors attended the ELCA Youth Gathering in Detroit. The theme was “Rise Up Together” and the week of activity emphasized that the essential act of discipleship is to follow Jesus on the way to the cross. Our group joined thousands of others who were invited to follow Jesus on the way as they accompanied the people of Detroit in their journeys. They learned that to “rise up” doesn’t mean pursuing power or victory over another, but choosing weakness over power so that they might be together. The experience of death and life held together on the way is the “beginning of the good news.” It is God’s narrative into which we are inviting young people, and in which we hope young people will nest their own stories.
